Last weekend, there was a great deal of speculation in AI around the source of the mystery model Ox Alpha. The model had previously been on the line anonymously, OpenRouter, and was then rapidly at the forefront of multiple benchmark tests and rankings.
Confirm from GLM series
Bloomberg quoted information that the team behind Ox Alpha was Z.ai. Subsequently, Z.ai confirmed that the model was indeed the latest version of its GLM series.
Wednesday release of model weights
Z.ai indicates that the model weight for Ox Alpha will be released on Wednesday. Once the weights are made public, the developers can continue to train, adapt or deploy relevant applications on this basis.
The company defined Ox Alpha as a model oriented towards reasoning and code tasks, with a focus on continuous proxy work and the load of the production environment. In its terms, the model is suitable for long-cycle software engineering, complex reasoning, and workflows that combine text and visual context.
GLM-5.3 issued this month
Ox Alpha is of interest mainly because it is online without the development party's identity being made public and soon competes with head models in multiple assessments.
Just earlier this month, Z.ai also released GM-5.3. According to the original version, this version competes with the Anthropic Fable 5 in part of the baseline test.
