Arkham, a data platform on the chain, disclosed that the United States Government address had recently transferred about 0.0048 bitcoin, which was less than $400 at the time of transfer. The asset was allegedly derived from the Alameda Research account that was seized on Binance.US three years ago, but no United States federal agency has specified the specific purpose of the transfer.

Arkham revealed that the transfer was small.

Arkham published information on August 27 that the bitcoin was transferred from a wallet marked as the United States Government. The platform did not define the operation as a sale, nor did it provide evidence that the Government had begun to dispose of the remaining Alameda-related bitcoin.

Arkham also questioned whether the United States Government would continue to transfer the remaining Alameda-related bitcoin. To date, however, no plans for the sale of surplus assets have been published.

  • Approximately 0.0048 BTC transfers
  • Valuation at current prices
  • about 324,552 BTC

There were earlier transfers of larger assets

Prior to the small transfer, the United States Government had repeatedly transferred seized assets related to FTX and Alameda this year. Reports indicate that in June this year, the Government transferred assets to a total value of nearly $984 million, most of which went to Coinbase Prime.

At that time, approximately $7.68 million of assets entered Coinbase Prime, covering not only bitcoin but also other digital assets. Arkham had indicated that the seized assets were related to the FTX insolvency estate recovery process and could be used for payment by subsequent creditors.

By contrast, on August 27, this transfer was minimal. Arkham ' s statement on X also did not describe the target address as the clearing address of the exchange, so it is not possible to conclude at this stage that the Government has initiated the sale.

The strategic bitcoin reserve remains legally distinct

The United States Government ' s hold of bitcoin has received sustained attention in recent months, in the context of the creation of strategic bitcoin reserves by executive order in Trump in March 2025. Under this framework, the final confiscation process has been completed in bitcoin, which can be transferred to reserves and held as government assets.

However, “seizure” is not the same as “final confiscation”. The former may still be affected by court proceedings, compensation for victims or other claims; only bitcoin that is finally confiscated can be formally incorporated into the Government ' s reserves. Assets that enter strategic bitcoin reserves are also subject to non-sale requirements in executive orders.

A June statistics show that the United States federal Government had a total of about 328,372 bitcoin at the time, but that these assets were scattered under different agencies and that the legal situation was not entirely consistent. Since then, the Ministry of Finance and others have been working on such issues as trusteeship, audit and management authority.

Alameda assets are still associated with the recovery of FTX.

Alameda Research is a closely connected trading company before the FTX collapse. The prosecution later charged Sam Bankman-Fried with misappropriation of exchange client funds through Alameda. In November 2023, the New York jury found him guilty of numerous counts of fraud and conspiracy; in March 2024, the court sentenced him to 25 years ' imprisonment.

By June 2026, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit upheld the conviction and sentence. At the same time, the insolvency recovery process between FTX and Alameda is still under way and the allocation of recovered assets to creditors is still determined by the relevant procedures.

As a result, the most recent transfer of 0.0048 bitcoin, which is part of the creditor's repayment process, the internal transfer of strategic bitcoin reserves, or a separate seizure and disposal exercise, is not currently accounted for.
