Some $6.44 billion in nominal bitcoin options will expire on Friday in Deribit. The current price is approaching $80,000, and the market is concerned about whether hedges before and after the settlement of the contract will magnify short-line fluctuations.
It's close to a fifth.
The contract involved 8.17 million bitcoin options, of which 4.46 million saw options, 37.1 million saw options, 0.83 saw drops/ups, and the overall holding structure was excessive.
The nominal value of the contract, at the spot price, was approximately $6.44 billion, close to one fifth of Deribit Bitco ' s unsealed option and would be settled at the same time.
- Due Friday 08:00 UTC
- Number of contracts: 81,700
- Nominal value: $6.44 billion
$75,000 and $80,000 hold-up
At present, the increase in options contracts is mainly concentrated on the execution rates of $75,000 and $80,000. According to the report, the nominal warehouse size within 5 per cent of current prices is over $500 million.
This means that, if Bitcoin continues to fluctuate in the vicinity of these zones, the party that sells the options usually needs to adjust the risk exposure by buying and selling the spot, and the related hedges may become more active before and after maturity.
The market is also concerned with the “maximum pain point” level, i.e. the maximum price of zero when the contract expires. Deribit gives the highest pain point of this maturity between $68,000 and $70,000, about $9 million to $11 million below current prices.
ETF shows up with Jackson Hall.
It was noted that nominal value did not amount to an actual flow of traded funds and that a number of contracts this week were far from current prices, which could eventually be directly invalidated and would not lead to actual settlement.
Marketers have indicated that the expiry week tends to look more tense, but the actual impact is not always significant. With this larger bitcoin maturity, spot price responses have been relatively limited.
However, this expiration date was close to other market events. In addition to the options, the market is also following the spot bitcoin and ETF financial flows this week, as well as policy speeches during Jackson Hall.
Additional information:It is mentioned that the bitcoin option, which expires in September, is nearly twice the size of the current one and that the change in derivative hold will remain an important observation point in the coming weeks.
