AI proxy wallets are becoming a new direction for the combination of encryption and automated payments. Such wallets do not allow AI to take over the private key in its entirety, but rather allow the software to initiate a chain operation within the predefined permissions of the user, including payment, token transactions and deFi interaction.
The core is the scope of the mandate.
Unlike normal encrypted wallets, which usually require manual cross-checking, AI proxy wallets can delegate part of the execution authority to the software agent. Users can set in advance the available tokens, the daily spending cap, smart contracts that allow for interaction, white lists of agreements, and a limit on the amount of a single transaction.
Under this design, AI agents select actions, and the wallet checks for compliance with established rules before signing and sending the transaction to the chain for execution. In other words, the key is not “automation” per se, but whether automation is restricted to control.
Machine Payment is considered the next application
It is mentioned that AI agents are already able to compare prices, search markets and decide on which service to use, and capacity to pay is considered the next step. Encryption networks are suitable for such scenarios because wallets can be software-controlled and block chains can continue to operate without relying on traditional payment account systems.
Coinbase's launch of angent Wallets is aimed at self-employed expenditure, transactions and revenue acquisition. Its x402 protocol further attempts to have software agents pay API or digital services directly in stable currency.
This means that AI agents can theoretically buy data sets, pay for cloud computing resources, or directly execute a DeFi transaction without having to open traditional payment accounts.

Security remains the biggest obstacle
The article argues that the biggest problem at this time is not whether AI can initiate a transaction, but how much authority it should be granted. AI agents may misjudge instructions, perform errors or interact with malicious contracts.
At the same time, the infusion of hints has created new attacks. The attackers do not necessarily steal the private key directly, but may also manipulate AI's judgement to induce them to perform the wrong transaction. A recent wallet attack involving AI transaction services also shows that the agent system may introduce additional risks.
Sound design therefore continues to rely on strict level control, white list mechanisms and transaction checks. Even with AI, the bottom of the wallet is safe for hosting and key.
From this point of view, AI proxy wallets are more like programmable financial accounts for software agents. If subsequent security controls continue to improve, such products can become an infrastructure for automated transactions, stable currency payments and inter-machine commerce.
