The United States is in contact with Qatar to intensify diplomatic efforts
On 10 July, according to the American Broadcasting Corporation, a source familiar with the discussions reported that United States Vice-President Vance and United States Special Envoys Whitkov and Kouchner had been in contact with Qatari officials this week, following a dramatic escalation of attacks between the United States and Iran this week. It is not yet clear how much progress has been made on Friday, and Qatar, Pakistan and other national mediators are working to defuse the tension caused by Iran ' s attack on ships in the Strait of Hormuz earlier this week. In response, the United States launched an intensive strike against at least 170 targets in two days, which led to a new Iranian attack against its allies in the Persian Gulf. Iran has also confirmed that discussions are under way with the facilitator, but there is no indication of any new direct contacts between officials of the United States and Iraq. Kim Xian
