Coldcard's hardware wallet theft continues, with a total loss of about $88.6 million

On 3 August, the Coldcard hardware wallet theft attack continued, with a cumulative total of 1,367 BTCs stolen from 4585 addresses and a total loss of approximately $88.6 million. According to Galaxy Research, the loophole originated from the March 2021 random number generation defects of the solids, the hacking of the private key by large-model programming, and the risk of theft of the single-marked addresses generated by all this version of the solids. On average, 3.18 years of sleep were spent in stolen coins, most of the victims were long-line holders, and the location of the stolen funds was not transferred. The incident subverted the industry's “safer self-custody” consensus that a large number of users feared the transfer of bitcoin back from cold wallets to the Centralized Exchange to avoid risk; already users' wallets were stored in bank safes, and the entire network remained empty for minutes. About 600 hacker addresses have been marked and submitted to law enforcement authorities and the relevant users are urgently reminded to immediately transfer all assets from their wallets。
