INSTITUTION: CUSTOMIZE AI CHIPS OR WILL TAKE MORE AA MARKET SHARE

On 4 August, Bernstein analysts stated in a study that, as the focus of the industry was rapidly shifting from training to reasoning, customizing the AI chip might gain a greater share in the AI accelerator market. Bernstein expects the total potential market size of AI accelerators to reach $50 billion in 2027. They noted that while GPU still had the largest share, the market share of customized AI chips (i.e., ASIC) could double from 10 per cent in 2025 to 20 per cent in 2027. Chase has entered into a long-term agreement with Google to develop customized AI chips, while Marvell notes that custom accelerators are increasing for all four cloud service providers. They added: “All these developments indicate that ASC is no longer merely a tactical complement to GPU, but rather an increasingly structured layer of AI infrastructure planning.”
