Bitcoin network day active addresses rose to 980,000, the highest since December 2024

On 7 August, the number of active Bitcoin addresses rose sharply to about 980,000 per day, the highest level since December 2024, following the Coldcard hardware wallet lockout incident, monitored by Glassnode. The analysis noted that the increase in activity in the chain was driven mainly by security concerns and did not represent a change in market confidence. Some bitcoin holders are moving assistive words and assets to other hosting programmes to reduce potential security risks. The data show that a significant amount of money transfers are more like operational security measures taken by currency users in response to wallet security incidents, rather than emptying the market or looking at emotional changes. The industry is of the view that the hardware wallet security incident may increase trade activity on the chain in the short term, but the long-term impact will still depend on the restoration of trust in the self-custody security system。
