The United States Senate approved the appointment of Brett Matsumoto as Director-General of Labour Statistics

On 8 August, the United States Senate approved the appointment of the professional economist Brett Matsumoto as Director of the United States Bureau of Labour Statistics on Friday. Following the dismissal of the former director of Trump a year ago due to weak employment data, this appointment could help to alleviate external concerns about the Agency ' s credibility. Matsumoto was confirmed by 51 votes to 47. He joined the Bureau of Labor Statistics in 2015 and travelled to the White House Economic Advisory Committee. Trump had nominated him to replace Erica McKentaver, who was dismissed last August. William Viatroski, who has long served as Deputy Director, currently heads the Bureau of Labor Statistics as an agent. Matsumoto told parliamentarians at the confirmation hearing in June that he was committed to maintaining the integrity and independence of the Bureau of Labor Statistics。
