Bybit won US court support for tracking $1.5 billion in hacker money

Bybit ' s efforts to trace funds for the $1.5 billion hacking that occurred in February 2025 have advanced in the United States courts. The Federal Judge has approved the expedited taking of evidence and partially satisfied Bybit ' s preliminary injunction request. On 18 June, Bybit instituted proceedings in the District District of Columbia District District Court against the DPRK and its General Reconnaissance Directorate, the Lazarus Group and 20 unaccused persons. The latest update indicated that approximately $48.4 million of stolen assets had been recovered, while over $30.5 million remained frozen in over 28 exchanges and custodians. Court records show that Judge John D. Bates granted accelerated evidence on 19 June, allowing Bybit to obtain account identities, balances and trading history from a platform where information on stolen funds might be held. The court also issued an interim restraining order to prevent the transfer of certain traceable assets. Bybit stated that the Court had found its case “high probability of success”。
