Research: 65 340 high-risk encryption addresses lost over $574 million Dollar

A study published on USENIX Security ' 26 shows that researchers identified 65,340 high-risk encrypted addresses involving misuse on the Isopha and BNB Chain, associated with loss of 126.982.94 ETH and 17,726.7 BNB. The study estimated that the total loss associated with these addresses exceeded $574.8 million, with two of the newly described active offensive vectors directly causing losses of approximately $15.7 million (or 2.7 per cent). The first category consists of the misuse of contractual accounts and the use of the second category of contractual addresses using EIP-7702 to entrust accounts with exposed keys to the malicious code for direct transfer of deposits. The team extracted more than 16.3 million private keys from the 63,004 GitHub warehouses from January 2015 to May 2025, with an overall accuracy rate of 99.11 per cent。
