Young Weida scaled down a $250 billion guarantee for OpenAI data centre

On 15 August, according to the Wall Street Journal, informed sources revealed that Inweida and OpenAI were approaching a financing agreement to build a large data centre campus in Ohio. However, the parties have restructured their trading structures, and Britain will initially guarantee only half of this tens of billions of dollars-scale expansion, not the full amount. The revised plan reduces the financial guarantee from $250 billion to less than $120 billion. This adjustment responds to investors ' concerns about the risk exposure of the chip manufacturer, which is using its own balance sheet to boost demand for its artificial intelligence chip. The agreement could be signed as early as this weekend. In accordance with the programme framework currently under discussion, Weida will provide financial guarantees for the first phase (a total of about 5 GW electricity capacity) and a decision on whether and how to finance the subsequent phase will be taken. According to two persons with knowledge of the project, OpenAI is still negotiating a binding lease for the 10 GVA capacity of the project in the coming days. Kim Xian
