according to public reports, the hong kong police reported a total of 20,613 cases of fraud recorded in hong kong during the first half of 2026, involving losses of approximately hk$ 3.5 billion. of this total, 2,151 cases of investment fraud, or approximately one tenth of the total, involved losses of approximately hk$1.65 billion. the one case with the highest single loss involved encrypted currency, in which the victim transferred some hk$84.79 million worth of encrypted assets to the electronic wallet designated by the fraudster and was eventually found to have been deceived by the inability to extract so-called investment proceeds. the hong kong police have also updated the jpex case, and some 2,800 victims have been reported and over hk$ 1.6 billion have been arrested since 2023, of whom 29 have been indicted for conspiracy to commit fraud, money laundering and obstruction of justice。
