Mark Cuban: The AI chip will be a new encryption asset
Mark Cuban stated on 16 August that “chips as an asset class would become new encrypted assets”, a projection that reflected the drive of artificial intelligence into the demand for advanced computing hardware. Cuban did not specify in its communications any financial products, investment structure or timetable. His comments were widely interpreted as pointing to high-end AI accelerators, such as GPU. CoreWeave closed a $2.6 billion deferred withdrawal loan on 10 August to finance high-performance computing infrastructure, demonstrating the lenders ' confidence in the long-term GPU requirements. Quarterly data reported recently by NVIDIA show that data centre income amounted to $75.2 billion, an increase of 92 per cent over the same period. Although these data indicate the need for GPUs, no chip has been established as a stand-alone investment category. Cuban's latest comments were made shortly after he significantly reduced the hold of Bitcoin, which he said was “not the hedge tool I expected”。
