Qatar promotes the resumption of negotiations between the United States and Iran and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz
The spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Majid Al-Ansari, stated that his country was facilitating the resumption of negotiations between the United States and Iraq and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and that current diplomatic efforts were focused on de-escalating the crisis and preventing further escalation. Ansari stated that the way to resolve the current crisis was to achieve a United States-Iraq ceasefire, guarantee freedom of navigation and facilitate the return of both sides to the negotiating table. Qatar and Pakistan had previously engaged in good offices, leading to the conclusion of a memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, but the provisions had not been fully implemented owing to the breakdown of the ceasefire. At present, the Qatari side is awaiting an agreement between Oman and Iran on the Strait of Hormuz to facilitate the resumption of the negotiation process and avoid further escalation。
