British consumer confidence is two years high, despite the warning of inflation
Consumer confidence in the United Kingdom rose to 14 in August, a two-year high, although the market is generally expected to decline to 18 per cent. This unexpected increase reflects the strong performance of recent British economic data and is likely to contribute to the expected improvement in household expenditure. The main sub-indicators of purchases have jumped to their highest level since December 2021 and are particularly important for the retail and durable industries. Surveys have shown that consumer confidence in bulk commodities has increased, despite the GfK warning of a rebound in inflation risks and the continued uncertainty in the Middle East. The GfK consumer confidence index, based on interviews with 2,000 adults between 30 July and 12 August, provides more timely observations of family attitudes。
