The U.S. Supreme Court suspended the work and Trump could continue building the banquet hall

On Friday, 22 August, the United States Supreme Court indicated that the President could now proceed with the construction of the hall as the Chief Justice continued to consider the urgent appeal filed by the Trump Government and requested permission to allow the White House party to proceed. This provisional measure, known as the “administrative stay”, gives the Chancellor of Justice more time to consider whether the stoppage order issued by the lower court in respect of the project should come into effect. In the absence of action by the Supreme Court, the injunction by the lower court would have come into effect on Saturday and the project, which had an area of 90,000 square feet, was immediately suspended. According to Trump, the project is necessary for national security. Both lower courts had previously ruled that the removal of the eastern wing of the White House and the initiation of the building of the banquet hall by Trump were outside the President ' s authority. In the autumn of last year, Trump dismantled the east wing of the White House in just a few days, and immediately thereafter began building the banquet hall, a project that was not approved by Congress. However, he was allowed to continue the work while the Government of Trump advanced the appeal。
