Korea proposes to open virtual asset accounts to about 3,500 businesses

On 22 August, the Korea Finance Commission proposed a framework for the opening of business virtual asset accounts to approximately 3,500 listed companies and registered professional investors. The Korean National Assembly has formally passed amendments to the Electronic Securities Act and the Capital Market Act to incorporate the monetization of real world asset and securities-type tokens into the unified legal framework. The Central Bank of Korea has completed the initial test of Project Hangang Real World Deposit Currency Project and plans to conduct the second stage of institutional testing at the end of 2026. The relevant technical experiments have used wholesale deposit tokens to allow AI agents to carry out automated terms transactions。
