Iranian scholar: Iran seeks to advance the new framework for the management of the Strait of Hormuz

On 12 July, Mohamed Eslami, a senior researcher at the University of Tehran, indicated that, in accordance with article 5 of the memorandum of understanding, the United States had accepted arrangements for cooperation between Iran and neighbouring countries in the management of the Strait of Hormuz. Eslami states that Iran's position on the Strait is “very clear”, that is, to advance the “new management” model. He stressed that “Iran does not wish to block the Strait of Hormuz” and revealed that Tehran has engaged with the United States, Oman and some European countries on this new framework. He added that if the United States had objections to the interpretation of article 5 of the memorandum, it should have consulted the Iranian side。
