India's oil imports from Russia are record high
According to the British Financial Times, India ' s oil purchases from Russia are at an all-time high due to the oil supply strain caused by the Gulf conflict, making it more difficult for New Delhi to escape its dependence on Moscow. According to Sumit Ritolia, the chief analyst of the trade consulting firm Kpler, over 2.6 million barrels of Russian oil were imported daily in New Delhi in June and July, up from the low point of 1 million barrels per day in February, accounting for more than half of the country ' s crude oil imports. As the peace agreement between Washington and Tehran remained elusive, the outflow of small amounts of oil from the Strait of Hormuz forced India to redirect to Russia to meet its oil needs. To contain the effects of the Gulf crisis, Trump granted a partial exemption to India to purchase Russian oil. India, like many other Asian countries, has reverted to coal generation as a result of the war that disrupted the supply of natural gas in the Middle East. During the decade since March 2015, India ' s annual coal production has dramatically increased by 70 per cent to 1.04 billion tons。
