Iranian MP: Controlling the Strait of Hormuz is Iran's “final” policy

According to the Iranian Press TV, Hassan Kashkawi, a member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian Parliament, indicated on Sunday that Iran would prefer to control the Strait of Hormuz through cooperation with regional countries, in particular Oman. He noted that “it is our clear official position that the future management of the Strait of Hormuz will be arranged by the Iranian side”. Kashkawi also mentioned that the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea provides that, in times of war, coastal States have the right to take measures to ensure the safe passage of the sea and to maintain its security in the sea. He stressed that “Iran's conduct in the Straits of Hormuz is in full conformity with international law” and described the United States attack on Iran in recent weeks over the Strait of Hormuz as “a violation of the peremptory norms of the Charter of the United Nations and of State sovereignty”。
