Spain proposes stricter data centre regulations

The Spanish Government plans to introduce stricter data centre regulations covering water, energy and network security. New requests have been incorporated into the draft decree and will be open to public comment this week. Spain has become a hot hub in Europe thanks to its abundant renewable energy and vast open spaces, attracting tens of billions of euros in AI infrastructure projects. The draft provides for the establishment of data centre operators within the EU, the retention of data and metadata processed in the EU and the establishment of mechanisms to control access to third countries. More stringent regulations will be introduced for centres dealing with data from public institutions or national security data。
