The index of encrypted fear and greed reached its highest point since October 2025
On 26 August, CoinDesk reported that the index of encrypted currency fear and greed had skyrocketed from 27 on 12 August to 74 on Tuesday, and that less than two weeks had elapsed before the mood had turned back to 65 on Wednesday. The last time the index reached this level was on 5 October 2025, the first five days of “10 October crash” that led to the liquidation of some $19 billion in leverage. Bitcoin rose from less than $68,000 last week to nearly $80,000, with some of the major coins increasing by 70 per cent. Dog coins rose by about 24 per cent a week, and mini-Meme coins increased even more: Thining Cat grew by 131 per cent a week, Cash Cat by 113 per cent and Dog (Bitcoin) nearly doubled. Analysts point to the inflow of scarcely invested small coins as a strong sign of a return of risk preferences, but it may also mean that the market overheating faces a reversal. The next test is the first keynote address by Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh in Jackson Hall on Friday。
