Bitcoin is facing a $6.4 billion maturity of options, which could increase volatility
Trading agents are preparing for the expiration of options of approximately $6.44 billion in bitcoin, which will expire on Friday, 28 August, at UTC 08:00 in Deribit. This expiration covered approximately 81,700 contracts, each representing one bitcoin. The current trade price in bitcoin is about $78,970, which has fallen by about 1.4 per cent over the past 24 hours, but has risen by 22.9 per cent over the past seven days. The contracts due included 44,639 increases and 37,061 drops, resulting in a drop to increase ratio of 0.83, indicating that the increase exceeded the drops. Deribit Chief Risk Officer Shaun Fernando stated that the nominal value of over $500 million was within 5 per cent of the price in the Bitcoin market, which was expected to lead to an increase in the gamma hedge before maturity。
