Letter from the Foreign Minister of Iran to the United Nations requesting condemnation of the United States “economic terrorism”

On 27 August, Iranian Foreign Minister Aragazi wrote to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Security Council and States Members of the United Nations, stating that the “economic isolation operation” announced by the United States on 24 August was designed to force other countries to end their legitimate economic relations with Iran by means of secondary sanctions and restrictions on access to the United States financial system and to extend United States laws and policies extraterritorially. Aragazi stated that the measures would affect basic needs such as food, medicine, medical equipment and energy, and cited the 2018 ruling of the International Court of Justice accusing the United States of violating international law. Iran calls on the Security Council and the States Members of the United Nations to condemn and reject the unilateral coercive measures and secondary sanctions imposed by the United States and on the United States to put an immediate end to its pressure on third countries, as well as on the Secretary-General of the United Nations to assess their humanitarian impact. Iran indicated that it would reserve the right to pursue and claim compensation for the losses in question from the United States by all means。
