Iran claims that the Strait of Hormuz is “completely closed”: all transit vessels are licensed by Iraq

On 30 August, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran, Garibabadi, stated that no vessel could pass through the Strait of Hormuz without Iranian coordination. According to Garibabadi: “The Strait of Hormuz is completely closed and, if a ship passes through the Strait, it must have passed in coordination with Iran and with permission”. He stated that the Iranian armed forces were in full control of all movements in the Strait of Hormuz and that the United States side ' s claim that ships were passing through the Strait was totally untrue. He stated that Iran had reached a consensus with Oman on a transit arrangement for the Strait of Hormuz, but that the Strait of Hormuz would not open until the United States had fulfilled its commitments. He stated that Iran would continue to take defensive action and was prepared for any scenario. Kim Xian
