Analyst: US Employment Report will support Walsh ' s perception of the labour market
On 30 August, economists predicted that the monthly employment report released on Friday by the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics would show that non-farm employment had increased by 55,000 in August, following an unexpected decline in employment in July. If so, the result would be broadly consistent with the average monthly increase since the current year. Unemployment is expected to remain at 4.1 per cent. Ana Wong, an analyst, stated that the hawk speech by Walsh at Jackson Hall raised the possibility of a September hike and changed the market ' s expectations as to how the data should be interpreted next week. The August report on non-farm employment is still the headline, but the expected signs of weakness may not be as decisive as usual. Walsh described the labour market as being in good health and noted that the slowdown in employment growth was often a demographic problem rather than an economic downturn. Kim Xian
