Analyst: The first week of Besent's “economic offensive” against Iran has had limited success
On 30 August, at the beginning of the week, United States finance chief Besent vowed to launch an “economic offensive” against Iran and its trading partners, again trying to end the war. As of the end of the week, however, the countries associated with Iran had so far been dissatisfied with the threat, and analysts were disappointed with the actions taken by the United States. Towards the end of the week, the United States announced plans to sanction the branch of the Egyptian Misr Bank in the United Arab Emirates. Prior to Becent's warning that the world would “see significant news of a financial institution being sanctioned by the end of this week”, this initiative is far below expectations. Alex Zerden, a former official of the United States Treasury Department and founder of Capitol Peak Stratages, said: “The actions publicly taken by the United States Treasury this week are not in line with previous propaganda. The `economic banishment' continues 47 years of restrictive economic measures against Iran but does not provide a clearer path to how the current operation will achieve economic or military victory.” Kim Xian
