ASSESSMENT BY THE GOVERNMENT OF BOLIVIA OF THE INTEGRATION OF USDT INTO THE NATIONAL PAYMENT SYSTEM

According to Criptonotias, the Minister of Economy and Public Finance of Bolivia, José Gabriel Espinoza, indicated that the Government was conducting a technical assessment of the possibility of integrating USDT into the national payment system so that it could circulate in the economic system, like the United States dollar and the Boliviano. Espinoza indicated that Bolivia had now lifted its ban on encrypted assets, but still lacked a complete regulatory framework, and that there was a need to further improve the rules and take into account the anti-money-laundering requirements of the country, which was still on the FATF ash list. Owing to the chronic shortage of foreign exchange, USDT has been widely used in fuel procurement and day-to-day transactions in Bolivia since 2024.
