Tether Open Source translation model covering 19 African and 9 European languages

On 2 September, Tether AI Research announced the launch of multiple open-source AI translation models, which can run directly on smartphones, laptops and other peripherals, and support off-line translation without uploading user data to third-party clouds. Of these, TranslatePsy-AfriSLM supports 19 African languages, Afrianano supports 8 and EuroNano covers 9 European languages; the former covers about half of the African population. Tether has also introduced new quality assessment filters that remove up to 96 per cent of low-quality open source training data. The relevant model has been downloaded and its results received at EM NLP 2026。
