Coldcard hackers converted stolen BTCs to ETH through Thorchain
According to Alex Thorn of Galaxy Research, the third Bosnia and Herzegovina customer of the Goldcard wallet theft started converting stolen bitcoin into a Taify on 3 September through Thorchain. The transaction moved about 10 per cent of the bitcoin controlled by the assailant and about 90 per cent of the bitcoin remained at its original address. Through Thorchain, researchers traced a newly identified ETA address, which has been shared with law enforcement agencies and encryption companies monitoring stolen assets. Thorchain allows users to exchange raw assets between block chains without having to deposit funds in the centralized exchange. The transfer was the first time that the money had been transferred from the original hacker address. Analysts will continue to monitor whether these ETH will be moved to centralized exchanges, bridges or privacy services。
