American media: Trump asked Netanyahu to withdraw from Syria and Lebanon

On 15 July, according to Axios, citing officials from the United States and Israel, United States President Trump, in a recent conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, stated that the redeployment of Israeli forces from Syria should begin and urged Israel to take similar action in Lebanon. According to Trump, the presence of Israeli forces in the Syrian-controlled zone could lead to an escalation of the situation and to Netanyahu: “They do not want you there and you should redeploy”. Netanyahu, for his part, stressed the need for Israel to maintain a secure buffer zone at the border. According to reports, the Trump Government has been pushing Israel-Syria for several months to reach new security arrangements in the hope of a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from Syrian territory since the fall of the Assad regime at the end of 2024, but considers Netanyahu to have no intention of making any related concessions. In addition, the United States has recently conducted good offices on the implementation of the Lebanese-Israeli ceasefire framework to facilitate the withdrawal of the Israeli forces from parts of southern Lebanon, although the withdrawal schedule remains divided。
