Cambridge study: US carries about 31% at Taifung node, over 1/3 node offline or final confirmation of impact
On July 17, a recent study by Cambridge Center for Alternative Finance showed that about 31 per cent of ETA activities were in the United States and about 39 per cent were in the EU, which did not include Britain, indicating that the geographical distribution of ETAs remained more concentrated in Western countries. According to Alexander Neumuller, the research director, nodal distribution is not currently concentrated in a single country, but relies mainly on a few cloud service providers, including Hetzner, Amazon AWS and OVH. It is a matter of concern that the ETA network does not require half of the certifiers to fail before problems arise, and when more than one third of certifiers are offline at the same time, the network may not be able to complete the final confirmation of the block check point (finalization). Neumuller noted that node is not a match to a certifier and that there may be multiple certifiers running behind a single node, so that it is not possible to determine with precision the actual impact of a node or service provider failure on the certification network. In addition, the study re-evaluated energy consumption after the integration of the Etheraf. The data show that the current annual energy consumption in the Ether is about 7.9 GWh, equivalent to about 1 MW, at about 0.02 per cent of pre-merger levels, and that energy consumption has decreased by about 99.98 per cent. The current rate of use of sustainable energy in the Taifa network is over 56 per cent, above the global average. At the same time, it was noted that customer-based software concentration was also one of the potential risks, and that gaps in the dominant client could affect a large number of network participants.
