Runeston co-introduces to start a bitcoin client, Doug Mode, to circumvent BIP 110 to limit non-financial data
On 17 July, CoinDesk reported that the co-founder of Runestone, Leonidas, had announced that it was launching an open-source Bitcoin client named Dog Mode, which was designed to circumvent BIP 110 restrictions on non-financial data. DOG Mode will raise the maximum weight unit for standard transactions from 400,000 to 3.9 million, close to the entire block capacity, and reduce the dust limit from 294 to 546 to 1 hearing. Leonidas stated that the removal of the dust restrictions would release some $25 million of idle funds. The BIP 110 proposal limits arbitrary data through user-activation of soft fork, requiring 55 per cent of the support of miners and currently close to zero. DOG Mode does not require any consensus or vote, only changes to the individual node forwarding rules, and transactions are confirmed if sufficient node runs and miners accept them. Leonidas indicated that Doug Mode was far less deviating from Core than Knots and that there was no code repository or version available, and he called for developers to contribute codes and miners to add support。
