Iran condemns United States violations of the Memorandum of Understanding warning that necessary action will be taken

On 8 July, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement in the early morning hours of 8 July condemning the lifting by the United States of its temporary measures to suspend sanctions against Iranian oil sales as a flagrant violation of the Ibero-American memorandum of understanding and warning that necessary action would be taken in that regard. The statement stated that the United States was in flagrant violation of article 10 of the Ibero-Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and that the United States was responsible for the consequences. The statement also stated that the recent signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Ibero-American and American sides, whereby the United States announced the cancellation of its general permit issued on 21 June authorizing Iranian oil sales and so on, was yet another indication of the untrustworthiness of the United States Government. The statement also accused the United States of having violated the relevant provisions of the memorandum “directly or through Israeli actions in Lebanon”. The statement states that Iran has worked in good faith to fulfil its commitments since the signing of the Memorandum on 18 June. The United States, however, not only violated its commitments but also justified them under various pretexts.
