Zcash founder Zooko announced a hard-wire freeze on July 28th
The co-founder of Zcash (ZEC), Zooko Wilcox, revealed an urgent strategy to protect the mathematical integrity of the currency. The network will activate the Ironwood hard fork (nu6.3) on 28 July 2026, permanently isolating vulnerable orchard ponds in block 3,428,143 and locking in any potentially counterfeit ZEC. Previously, researcher Taylor Hornby discovered a loophole that might allow hackers to forge ZEC undetected in a private orchard pool. The developers quickly repaired the loophole and found no evidence of its actual use. The Zooko strategy eliminates the need for blind trust, and the new orchard pool will replace the pool and ensure financial security. Any user who runs a personal node can independently verify the accuracy of the supply. Some exchanges may temporarily suspend ZEC deposits and withdrawals, but this is considered a conventional technical adjustment and does not threaten the security of user assets。
