KOREAN OFFICIAL: KOREA MUST DEVELOP ITS OWN LOCAL FRONT-LINE AI LARGE MODEL

Korea ' s Minister of Science and Technology, Bae Kyung-hoon, declared on Monday that the front-line large artificial intelligence model or geostrategic asset that would evolve into a comparable nuclear weapon, and reiterated the need for Korea to develop its own home-grown front-line AI large model. Just a month ago, on security grounds, the United States Government suddenly banned offshore users from accessing the top-of-the-line Fable and Mythos models of Anthropic. BaeKyun-hoon, who came on the first anniversary of his appointment as Minister, stated at the relevant meeting: “The nuclear-weapon-like strategic attributes of the front-level AI mega-models are increasing, and the desire of some States to control such top-level AI systems will only increase. He added: “We are developing specific programmes and are actively coordinating the relevant departments within the Government. Korea must take up the challenge and study its own front-line AI megamodels as a way to build a global level of artificial intelligence competitiveness.”
