Launch of the first withdrawal operation in the “pilot area” in southern Lebanon

On 21 July, the United States Department of State issued a statement that the Israeli army had launched its first “pilot area” withdrawal operation in southern Lebanon on the same day in three villages in southern Lebanon. The statement stated that the withdrawal of the “pilot area” had been initiated under the tripartite framework agreement between the United States and Lebanon and under the auspices of the Tripartite Military Coordination Group, and that the three villages concerned were Fron, Srifa and Al-Khatal Qarbiya. This was a direct result of the talks between Israel and Lebanon held in Rome, Italy. The United States will continue to work closely with both parties to advance the implementation of the framework agreement。
