THE KENYAN PRESIDENT'S OFFICIAL WEBSITE WAS HACKED AND FIVE BTC RANSOMS WERE DEMANDED

The official website of President William Ruto of Kenya was hacked on 18 July and the front page was tampered with and offensive content against Ruto appeared. The attackers demanded five BTCs, valued at approximately $320,000, and threatened to divulge unspecified government information if no ransom was received by 1800 hours before the local time. The Government of Kenya subsequently temporarily shut down the website and initiated a forensic investigation, and the Ministry of Information, Communications and Digital Economy indicated that there was currently no evidence that sensitive data had been unauthorized access, leaked or lost, and other government systems and digital services were still functioning。
