Trump: The generic zero-tariff policy will be followed by 100 per cent, 200 per cent for two years

On 22 July, United States President Trump indicated that, effective 1 August 2026, all imported generics into the United States would continue to receive a two-year zero-tariff treatment; the tariff would then be raised to 100 per cent (one-year) and 200 per cent thereafter. The aim was to promote the return of generic pharmaceutical production to the United States and to impose penalties on enterprises that failed to establish production facilities and equip them within a specified period of time. The purpose of this policy is to protect the American population. The existing policy on patented, branded or innovative medicines, which has achieved significant results, will remain unchanged. At present, pharmaceutical facilities are being built on an unprecedented scale throughout the United States。
