Sources: Pakistan sought $10 billion from the United States after mediating Iran negotiations
On 22 July, informed sources revealed that Pakistan had submitted a request to the United States for a $10 billion fund to stabilize the exchange rate. If approved, the Fund would provide a lifeline for South Asian economies in financial distress. Pakistan ' s involvement in facilitating negotiations related to the Iranian war had raised its diplomatic profile and raised expectations that it would benefit from economic benefits from Washington and other partners. In its request to the United States Treasurer, Besente, Islamabad is seeking a $10 billion bilateral exchange-rate stabilization support fund between the Governments of the United States and Pakistan for a maximum period of five years. If agreed, the arrangement would enhance Pakistan ' s reserves, ease pressure on Pakistani rupees and reduce its dependence on multilateral financing, while Islamabad would implement stricter fiscal and monetary policies under the IMF plan.
