AMD will invest $5 billion in Anthropic with a chip cooperation agreement

AMD and Anthropic have reached an agreement to sign a contract for the purchase of artificial smart servers worth tens of billions of dollars. The deal will consolidate AMD's competitive advantage in catching up with the industry's champion, Britain, while providing the much-needed computing resources for Anthropic. According to the terms of the agreement, from the first half of 2027, Anthropic could purchase a new generation of AMD instinc MI450 chips of up to 2 Giva. AMD will also invest up to $5 billion in Anthropic, the first AMD to fund the AI enterprise, and the investment will be linked to the agreed calculator deployment target. AMD CEO Susef said, “We very much want to be deeply involved in the construction of its computing infrastructure.” She also revealed that the engineering teams of both parties have been working together for some time. Anthropic currently uses multi-manufacturing chips to carry computing power, including Google Scale Processor (TPU), Amazon Trainium Chip and British Graphic Processor (GPU). According to Susef, under this cooperative arrangement, Anthropic will, on the one hand, deploy the AMD chip to its own data centre, and, on the other hand, lease part of the computing resources through the large cloud manufacturer and AI New Cloud Service.
