OpenAI up to $700 billion in projected expenditure on cloud services for $30 billion in data centre construction

On 22 July, the Wall Street Journal reported that OpenAI was expanding its data centre and increasing its expenditure budget in that area. According to sources, OpenAI has increased its calculus expenditure projections to 2030 from about $600 billion earlier this year to about $750 billion. This increase reflects the fact that OpenAI is entering into a new agreement with the cloud computing service provider to quickly acquire the enormous calculus required for the development and operation of its AI model. On Wednesday, OpenAI indicated that $20 billion would be invested to launch the data centre project called “Camellia” in Efinham County, Georgia. The Vice-President of OpenAI Computing Strategy, Sachin Kati, stated that the company had entered into a contract with Georgia for power supply of 3.2 gigawatts between 2028 and 2032 and that the project costs were expected to exceed $30 billion. This could make the facility one of the largest data centres in OpenAI to date. According to sources, OpenAI hired Brent Mayo, one of the main architects of the Mask data centre construction project, to help ensure that the data centre project proceeded as planned。
