Gutierrez condemns the Houthi armed attack on commercial vessels transiting the Red Sea

On 24 July, local time, the Spokesman for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Diyarik, issued a statement by the Secretary-General on 24 July, in which he expressed his deep alarm at the resumption of attacks by Al-Houthi forces on commercial vessels transiting the Red Sea and the renewed threat to maritime navigation. The statement noted that the acts in question could further exacerbate regional tensions and could further involve Yemen in regional conflicts. The statement warned that the continued deterioration of the situation in Yemen would undermine the prospects for peace and have a serious impact on the economy, the humanitarian situation and the wider region. Gutres called on all parties to immediately de-escalate the situation and urged the Houthi armed forces to cease all further attacks or other escalation and to comply strictly with Security Council resolution 2722 and subsequent relevant resolutions on the protection of commercial vessels and the freedom of navigation in the Red Sea. Gutierrez also stressed that the right of international navigation and the freedom of navigation in the Mande Strait and the surrounding maritime areas must be fully restored. (In Russian)
