The United States experienced a slight decline in the labour market in the number of applicants for unemployment benefits

On 9 July, the decline in the number of United States applicants for unemployment benefits at the beginning of last week showed that the labour market remained stable despite the slowdown in employment growth in June. Data released by the United States Department of Labor on Thursday show that, as of the week of 4 July, the number of people requesting unemployment benefits had been reduced by 2,000 to 215,000 (up to 217,000) after seasonal adjustments. After an increase at the end of May and the beginning of June, there was a fall in the number of applicants for unemployment benefits. Economists mostly consider the previous rise to be noise. Despite the significant slowdown in employment growth in June and the revision of non-farm employment data in April and May, economists have indicated that there has been no substantial change in the labour market and that it remains “slowly recruited and laid off”。
