The United Kingdom proposes a high level of security for the data centre to deter speculative projects from taking up power grid resources

On 29 July, according to external media, the Office of Natural Gas and Power Markets (Ofgem) proposed new regulations requiring the data centre project to pay high upfront costs or provide financial guarantees, as well as stricter project push points to prevent speculative projects from queuing grid resources for the long term. According to a statement issued by Ofgem, the proposed rules require the data centre project to provide “significant” costs or other financial guarantees, such as letters of credit, performance bonds or cash bonds. The regulator will issue an advisory document on Wednesday detailing the manner in which the costs are calculated, how the British national energy system operator manages these costs, and the circumstances under which the project may lose its online queuing and be subject to the confiscation of fees or bonds paid。
