The Japanese Enterprise Pension Fund plans to install encrypted assets in 2026, which is not common in the area of local pensions. Under the current arrangement, this part of the warehouse represents approximately 1 per cent of the total assets and will be completed through a passive multi-asset fund, with a focus not on short-term price fluctuations but on spreading currency risk.
Management size is about 21.3 billion yen.
According to CoinPost, the National Business Corporation Fund Fund, located in the city of Okayama, serves approximately 1,200 small and medium-sized enterprises with approximately 21.3 billion yen in management assets, or approximately $136 million.
Reports indicate that the Fund plans to invest about 1 per cent of its total assets in encrypted assets, with specific exposures to passive products managed by a large hedge fund, which will hold multiple encrypted assets. However, the Fund has not disclosed the specific currency type or the name of the administrator.
Configure Targets to Disperse Currency
This arrangement is not described as a bet on a short-term increase in encrypted assets. It was mentioned that the Fund attached greater importance to currency risk diversification. Of the Fund ' s asset structure for fiscal year 2025, 80 per cent were yen, 15 per cent were United States dollars and 5 per cent were other currencies.
- FY 2025: Yen 80%, US$ 15%
- 2026 Fiscal year: to be reduced to 70%
- A further 5% is proposed for gold and encryption.
By the fiscal year 2026, the Fund plans to add 10 per cent of the currency allocation in developed markets. Aiyu Kiguchi, Chief Investment Officer of the Fund, stated that the United States dollar could weaken its reserve currency position in the future and therefore the Fund had not continued to increase its dollar share.
Japan System Adjustment provides background
The report also states that this judgement has been studied for about six years. For its part, the Fund believes that as the investor base expands, the encryption market is more mature than in the past. In addition to the passive configuration, the Fund is also studying arbitrage funds for a wide range of encrypted assets.
At the time of this move, Japan was moving forward with the re-regulation of encrypted assets. On June 11, the House of Representatives of Japan passed a bill to transfer encrypted assets from the framework of the Payment Services Act to that of the Financial Commodity Transactions Act. There is general concern in the market that this change will open a clearer path to Japan ' s compliance encryption ETF and related derivatives.
It was also reported by CoinPost that the Osaka Exchange was also evaluating the Bitcoin futures plan. If Japanese spot bitcoin ETF is legalized, the objective of the exchange is to introduce bitcoin futures by 2028 to meet the hedge needs of institutional investors.
Overall, this home-based asset management facility is still very small, but sends a clearer signal: In indigenous Japanese institutions, some of the funds have begun to include limited encryption asset exposures in monetary and portfolio allocation considerations.
