AWS is extending business AI services from the provision of cloud resources and modelling capabilities to the direct involvement of clients. The company announced a $1 billion investment to form a new Forward Deproyed Engineering team, to deploy engineers to its clients to help build and access the AI system.
Thousands of engineers entered the client's site.
Forward Deployed Engineer is commonly referred to as an engineer who enters the business site of the client directly and is involved in technical adaptation. AWS indicated that the new team would initially be staffed with “thousands” engineers, who would enter the client company in a group of approximately 5 to 6 people each, working with the business, engineering and security teams.
According to the AWS blog, the goal of these teams is to help clients build new, self-sustaining capabilities within weeks, rather than relying on external support for a long time. The company also mentioned that field engineers would work with AI proxy tools to improve the efficiency of deployment.
OpenAI and Anthropic have been successively programmed
This model is not the first AWS, but it moves earlier among large cloud manufacturers. It is mentioned that Palantir introduced this concept more than a decade ago. As enterprises speed up the adoption of the Generation AI, software companies have recently re-energized such services in the hope of increasing landing speed through deeper involvement in client sites.
In May this year, Anthropic announced the establishment of AI Service to help medium-sized enterprises deploy the Claude Model in collaboration with Blackstone, Hellman & Friedman, Goldman and Goldman. A few days later, OpenAI launched OpenAI Development Company with institutions such as TPG, Advent International, Bain Capital, Brookfield Assembly, and others to provide support for complex business scenarios.
AWS targets high-regulated industry demand
The AWS Frontline AI Vice President of Engineering and Services, Francessca Vasquez, states that the most important customer currently values the speed of deployment. She stated that the company had had similar capabilities in the past, but this was the first time that resources had been consolidated into a separate business module and that uniform deployment criteria had been applied.
According to AWS, this service is already being used by Allen Institute, the United States Professional Basketball Federation NBA, Sweat and the United States National Football League NFL. Vasquez also indicated that the next group of more likely clients would come from industries with higher regulatory requirements and more complex data sources.
Amazon has invested billions of dollars in Anthropic and OpenAI. Despite the investment relationship with the two companies, AWS continues to compete directly with the company AI for deployment services. The AWS spokesperson stated that the company also expected to work with the relevant deployment companies in OpenAI and Anthropic in the future and would later disclose more cooperation plans.
