The Trump government is giving higher priority to quantum computing and quantum safety. Two executive orders signed by the White House, one promoting quantum computing and the other requiring federal agencies to switch more quickly to the back quantum password system, also allowing the encryption industry to focus again on the long-term security of assets such as bitcoin.

The federal deadline is up to 2031.

According to the White House arrangement, the Federal Government's deadline for the use of late quantum codes was advanced to December 2031, with a marked tightening of the previous 2035 target. The United States Department of Commerce, through the United States National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), will also launch the pilot migration project, with the goal of facilitating a round of federal system transition preparation by 2027.

At the same time, the United States Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency will provide support to key infrastructure operators to help them shift to encryption programmes that are resistant to quantum attacks. According to White House officials, this adjustment was made in response to the so-called “Q-Day”, the point at which quantum computers could break existing mainstream encryption standards in the future.

2028 Quantum Count Targeted Land

Another executive order focused on capacity-building in quantum computing. The White House asked federal agencies to promote a “scientific” quantum computer and set 2028 as the target point. The United States Department of Energy will be responsible for defining the technical specifications of the system, which are expected to be deployed at national laboratories or other Department of Energy facilities.

In addition to the computational platform, the U.S. Department of Commerce, the Department of Energy, the Department of Defense and NASA are required to present a Quantum Sensory and Quantum Network technology deployment programme within five years. The executive order also refers to the expansion of relevant talent development, the strengthening of indigenous supply chains and enhanced coordination with allies, as well as the enhancement of counter-intelligence and cyber-protection capabilities for quantum research.

Bitcoin's security discussion is heating up.

The encryption industry was also accelerating the preparation of quantum risk when the executive order was issued. It was reported that Google had a post-quantifiable password in 2029. BTQ Technologies has previously introduced a Bitcoin test network based on BIP-360 proposals to try to validate the antiquator program.

Bitcoin developers also proposed BIP-361 in April, which envisages a future freeze of bitcoin in a vulnerable old address when the holder has not completed the relocation. Meanwhile, Stellar has published a Quantum Migration Road Map, and the Coinbase Quantum Advisory Board warns that about 7 million bitcoins may be exposed to quantum attacks in the future. Algorand also states that it is planned to achieve wider resistance by 2027.

There is still a technical threshold for quantum computing distance from a truly large-scale break-down of the mainstream encryption system, but the fact that the United States Government has advanced the schedule means that the subject has shifted from forward-looking to realistic deployment. For the encryption industry, wallet migration, address security and chain upgrading arrangements are likely to be followed by more frequent access to discussion centres.
