OpenAI, the senior executive in the application business, Fidji Simo will no longer hold full-time positions. In her internal note, she indicated that medical leave lasted longer than expected and decided to move to a part-time advisory role.
Simo joined the OpenAI Board in 2024 and became CEO of Applications in May 2025 to integrate the company ' s business and product operations. Subsequently, OpenAI also adjusted its reporting lines, with COO Brad Lightcap, CFO Sarah Friar and CPO Kevin Weil reporting to her, and Sam Altman focusing more on research, numeracy and security.
She disclosed in April this year that she was on leave due to the resurgence of neurological immunisation. At the same time, OpenAI also synchronized a number of personnel changes, including the transfer of Lightcap to the “special projects”, the departure of CMO Kate Rouch and the subsequent departure of Kevin Weil.
Simo's departure caused OpenAI to lose a core manager at a critical time. It was generally believed that she might have taken on additional responsibilities as the company moved forward. At the same time, OpenAI is considering IPO and is trying to close the gap with Anthropic in the business market.
She was primarily responsible for promoting OpenAI ' s consumer-level business, but ChatGPT slowed growth at the end of last year, failed to meet internal revenue targets, and the company became more dependent on programming tools to pull business.
